Can we be 'in the moment'?

NOW NOW NOW is a new full length dance performance by choreographer Luke George that proposes this question to its performers and audience.

We seek to be in the moment, yet through the pursuit of this, we move further and further away from it. George is drawn to the paradox of this notion and how it parallels the act of performance - which is happening both in real time between the audience and the performer, and yet is highly constructed.

In the presence of an audience, 3 performers will attempt to be physically and mentally in the moment - NOW NOW NOW!

"a dizzying example of form as content."
- Real Time (LIFESIZE)

"Confronted by the 'realness' and abjectness of their bodies... those bodies so honest with each other, or honest with us... The layering between character and performer, person and persona are all presented, all visible and acknowledged elements of the production's make up... desperately human." - Spark Online (LIFESIZE)

Luke George:
A Tasmanian based in Melbourne, Luke began dancing with Stompin and trained at the VCA. He has performed with Phillip Adams' Balletlab, Jo Lloyd and Chunky Move amongst others and with international choreographers Itoh Kim (Tokyo), Miguel Gutierrez (New York) and Deborah Hay (Austin, Texas). As a choreographer Luke has worked with the acclaimed Malthouse, Back to Back and Arena theatre companies, as well as creating the award winning Trike and six works for Stompin, where he was Artistic Director from 2002 until 2008. His first independent work LIFESIZE (Dance Massive '09) was recently short listed for an Australian Dance Award. His practice as performer, choreographer, collaborator, teacher and curator has taken him throughout Australia, Europe, Asia and North America.

"Luke George in particular is a commitment machine, throwing himself into the most difficult of places performatively, he endangers all for the sake of the work and I love the journey of that risk and am willing to take it with him time and time again."    - Martyn Coutts, dramaturge for NOW NOW NOW
