WAVEY | 9DIMES Dance Company

WAVEY – A weekend event in collaboration with Melbourne's dance and music subcultures

Set/Free – A series of short dance performance pieces by Melbourne's subcultures. Dancers and musicians will spend a week at Dancehouse, experimenting with new ideas to develop and share new work publicly. Presenting a hybrid of set choreography and freestyle at the end of the week.

Workshops - Facilitated by Melbourne's leaders in the subcultural dance communities they represent. This edition will include Hip-hop, Popping, Krump and Waacking. These 1hr workshops will be open to anyone interested in learning about different subcultures within street dance. Here participants will gain knowledge and insight into each of the styles' cultures and foundational movement. Book one session, a selection, or all!

1pm - 2pm | Workshop 1 (Hip-hop)
2pm - 3pm | Workshop 2 (Popping)
3pm - 4pm | Workshop 3 (Krump)
4pm - 5pm | Workshop 4 (Waacking)

Where: Upstairs Studio, Dancehouse (this event is not wheelchair accessible)

Efren Pamilacan Jr. is a Melbourne-based artist from internationally renowned Hip Hop dance collective Jigsaw Sneakers. His movement style has been interpreted by Filipino mambabatok artist Whang-Od as "water and strength". His work is diverse in content and form, working collaboratively to create productions for site specific, new-media and stage works. As a result of his longstanding subcultural participation as dancer and dancemaker, he is a strong advocate for cultural development through the Hip-hop dance community in Australia. Recent collaborative works include: City Sessions, Factory Reset, 9DIMES: You + Universe and Cypher Culture.
