The act, practice, or process of doing something and the behaviour of a specified kind of person or thing. It is defined as belief, attitude or style and is referred to by a word.

Ism's concept and inspiration is from the 'Mona-ism' gallery exhibition in Hobart Tasmania. This piece was originally performed as a solo work in Singapore and Philippines last year for the Asia International Dance Festival.

PAUL JESSEPH BASE HICKMAN is a Flinders University Adelaide graduate with a Bachelor of Nursing and with post-graduate qualifications in Emergency Nursing, ICU & Neonatal Intensive Care. Paul became one of the co-founders and Managing Director of Duxton Allcare (The stay @home caring & nursing service) established in April 2011. Indulging his passions, he achieved a Bachelor of Dance (VCA), Bachelor of Teaching & Bachelor of Business Management (Charles Darwin University).

Paul is the newly appointed Artistic Director for Filoz Contemporary Dance Theatre Cebu Philippines, a role he will commence in January 2017. Paul's contemporary choreographic work includes Infected Kinesthesia, Micro-org., distorted grace, ism (solo version), a music video with an emerging Australian artist and, more recently, an opening dance for Filipino superstar Lea Salonga's Melbourne concert and positive contagion which will be touring Philippines in September 2016 with Airdance Company Manila. He has performed works professionally for various choreographers internationally and locally.

In September 2014, Paul was a recipient of the Filipino-Australian Career Achievement Award in his hometown in Adelaide, South Australia. And this year, Paul was nominated for the Biennial Filipino Communities Council of Australia Awards night in the category Filipino Australian of the Year and was the winner of the Filipino Australian Achiever Award 2016.

KATHLEEN LOTT grew up in Canberra dancing at the Kim Harvey School of Dance. She completed her Advanced 2 in the RAD syllabus before moving to Melbourne to study at the Victorian College of the Arts. During her three years there she performed in works by Dr Neil Adams, Sandra Parker, Anna Smith, Rochelle Carmichael, Brooke Stamp and Stephanie Lake.

Since graduating in 2011, Kathleen has worked with Rochelle Carmichaelon The Faders in 2012 and Plucked in 2013. In 2014, Kathleen did two developments in Canberra on That Place In Between with Cadi McCarthy and Company. She also did a duet with Jake Kuzma as part of the You Are Here Festival in Canberra that year. Kathleen has worked with renowned Melbourne choreographer Antony Hamilton on Nyx, which was performed as part of Melbourne Festival in October 2015.
Kathleen's main focus is now on completing her Physiotherapy degree, but is very excited to have the opportunity to dance with Paul in ism, as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival 2016.
