The highly acclaimed Sacha Waltz rehearsal director and Berlin-based LaborGras collective director Renate Graziadei will perform two solo works at Dancehouse for one night only!

Story – No Story

...a relation between pure physicality and imagination, between body and language, between thought and reality. A journey begins, spaces and transitions arise, and the body moves...

Costumes LaborGras

In 2004 LaborGras were awarded with the Kurt-Jooss-Prize in Essen for the solo Story –No Story

We all possess habits and memories that we hold dear, as well as others that we would rather change or forget. In her solo work Rückwärts (Backwards), Renate Graziadei examines memories from the last ten years of her artistic career. She returns to situations that have formed her style of movement and her body memory, and that have left clear traces in the aesthetic of her language of movement. Graziadei interprets old habits of movement and intense corporeal experiences in a new light. She creates situations that place her in unfamiliar physical states and the audience can expirience it with her.

Solo Rückwärts description by Rosalind Masson:

Quietly a woman is shifted by dreamlike currents. She senses the light before recoiling. There is urgency but it resides elsewhere, not in her. Sound drifts and she is carried, but only into a different dream. Awakening. All situations she encounters have been felt before in another form. Constellations scoop, tip and fold. Thoughts are encountered and unfurl like waves, then break, fragmented. She remembers this place and this falling. Was it there? Or here? Again and again she reinvents and revisits. The moments wash over her, overcoming and flooding the subconscious. As she is falling so is she building, as she is constructing so is her world dissolving. She asserts herself but to what avail? The air is as thin as the answers to her questions - elusive and unyielding. In the quest for something tangible she becomes unbounded. Her world is absent yet concrete. Through the act of searching she creates a tapestry of intentions, instances and reactions, a prism of the mind.

Renate Graziadei will also be conducting her Movement, Construction & Composition workshop at Dancehouse from 15 - 19 October. Click here for more details.
