Denise Stutz - guest artist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

A workshop for MAKERS and IMPROVISERS

In December 2010, celebrated Brazilian artist Denise Stutz will be in residence at Dancehouse, through a partnership between Dancehouse and the Panorama Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This partnership is designed to develop creative and collaborative relationships between independent artists working in dance in the southern hemisphere.

This year, as well as facilitating Denise's trip to Australia, our partnership has seen two Australian artists, Natalie Cursio and Shaun Parker, attend this years Panorama Dance Festival in Rio de Janeiro, thanks to the assistance of the Australia Latin America Foundation.

During her residency at Dancehouse, Denise is offering local artists the opportunity to take part in this free workshop.

"Our body moves in the service of our senses imagination and receives impulses from images, association and memories. We experiment with the possibilities of movement in order expand our body - consciousness and to understand the meaning of movement in time and space. Material created in playful improvisation will be joined into a composition. We will aim to understand what 'moves' and what 'meaning' has when creating scene."

Throughout the workshop the participants will be guided through a physical warm up incorporating improvisational excercises as preparation for working solo or in groups on ideas that have arisen from occurences within the workshop and in-conjunction with their previously considered idea/s. The workshop will culminate in a showing of the 'findings' created throughout the 10 days.

The workshop is open to experienced professional dancers and dance theatre makers. Participants are required to send through a short statement of approx 150 words articulating their point of interest for the workshop, with consideration to idea/s they wish to investigate.
