Embodying a Character Lab
With Brenda Monaghan
08 December 2009 - 17 December 2009
In this Lab the participant will learn how to build a character's physicality from a text as well as embodying the essence of a person they have observed in real life.
Through 'outside in' actor training techniques we will undertake an in depth study into the intricacies of the human condition and how inner life is revealed through a person's body, rhythm and use of space. These discoveries will be organically embodied through the participant's own versatile mechanism, of weight, space, tempo, flow and isolated protrusions or inversions of the peripheries. You will learn to embody a person's given circumstances, factors about his/her life, (work, status, emotional/social make up & more), and experience these physically.
The foundation of the training is based on the philosophies and practice of past and present masters in the actor's craft, namely Decroux, Lecoq and Gaulier it has also been founded on current practitioners such as Lilo Baur, Marie Dumont and David Latham.
The lab is facilitated by Brenda Monaghan who has trained in physical theatre in Brzezinka, Poland (2009), with Dawid Zakowski (Poland), Raul Iaiza (Argentina), & Roberta Secchi (Italy), Post Graduate degree in 'Methodologies for Actor Training' at the Victorian College of Arts (2008) only one person is chosen annually.
